Net Positive

Collection Development | Technical Design

About this project

Net Positive is a brand that wants to provide women with ethically-made underwear that prioritizes comfort and organic materials.
I was impressed by their founder, Natalia, and her commitment to create a brand that puts sustainability and women’s health at the forefront of their values. So, I helped her bring her ideas to life, from the first design iterations to the final tech packs and production samples.

Building a brand from the ground up

Natalia knew that her brand needed a streamlined but impactful product lineup, using understated though nuanced colours that aligned with her demographic, and paying great attention to quality fabrics like organic cotton or hemp:

The Process

Net Positive’s collections started as an exploration of basic silhouettes, to which we added small twists that elevate the garments over your usual day-to-day underwear. I created CAD sketches and 3D prototypes to allowed us to make better decisions during the design phase, and speed up product development, as we could communicate real measurements and details to the factory.

The tools

  • I used Illustrator and Photoshop to create graphics and colour palettes, as well as for drawing the technical sketches that I included on the tech packs.
  • CLO 3D allowed us to visualise the collection in a more realistic way through 3D mockups, and thanks to that I could test some of the factory patterns and propose solutions for the fit issues that appeared during sampling.

The results

  • A streamlined design and production process, in which the details of the products were clearly communicated to various manufacturers through comprehensive tech packs.
  • Thorough fittings in which we tested the factory samples on different sized models and identified the potential fit issues, which I translated into the necessary changes to the patterns that were to be made for the next round.
  • And of course, all culminated on a solid collection that reflects the ethos of the brand and appeals to their consumers.

After interviewing and working with 10+ designers, Sofia was the only designer that understood the project entirely. Not only did she use the format I was used to (excel), but she also provided valuable suggestions along the way. For a person starting a fashion business with no design experience, Sofia became my go-to person when I had questions about technical aspects of product design. I will continue working with her and highly suggest her to anyone looking for a bra/underwear designer. She knows her stuff!

The Final Result

All the CADs, tech packs, fit sessions and 3D development culminated in a range of garments that excel in simplicity and comfort, but incorporate thoughtful details to catch the eye of the customer. I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this process and helping Natalia create her dream lingerie brand! Here are some examples of the finished products :
